Albert C. Matuza, Jr.

Albert C. Matuza, Jr., age 78 of Pennington, NJ, passed away peacefully on Friday, Nov. 5, 2021 at St. Lawrence Rehabilitation Center, Lawrenceville, NJ, with his loving family by his side.

Born in Shenandoah, PA, Mr. Matuza lived in Yardley, PA and Pinehurst, NC before moving to Pennington.  Al graduated from Pennsbury High School in 1960 where he excelled in football, basketball and track.  After graduation, Al attended Bordentown Military Institute before attending Duke University on a football scholarship and earned a Bachelor of Arts in secondary education in 1966.  Al continued his education and earned his Master of Arts Degree from Trenton State College in 1973.

Al started his teaching and coaching career with the Pennsbury School District in 1966.  In 1969 he was selected as the Assistant Varsity Football Coach, and in 1987 was elevated to the lofty position as Head Varsity Coach for the Falcons.  Al served as Head Coach for the next five years until 1992 compiling a stellar record of wins.

For thirty-five years Al has touched the lives of thousands of students in the classroom, as well as on the football field and around the track. Al summed up the importance of athletics to the educational process: “Athletics brings to the surface those qualities necessary for success in life.”

In 2001 Al was inducted into the Pennsbury School District Athletic Hall of Fame in recognition of his commitment and devoted service to his players and the athletic programs.

During his retirement, Al loved spending time with his family and friends, playing golf, traveling, and was an avid gardener and reader.  He was a history buff as well as a sports enthusiast who rooted for his favorite teams, the Philadelphia Eagles, 76ers, Phillies, and the Duke Blue Devils.  Al especially enjoyed watching his grandson play football and basketball and develop into a driven athlete.

Son of the late Albert C. Sr. and Eleanor (Pikunas) Matuza, he is survived by his loving wife Carol A. (Perkins) Matuza, two daughters Lori A. Matuza of Ewing Township and Kristal L. Klotz of Pennington, NJ, two brothers and a sister-in-law Robert G. Matuza of Harleysville, PA and Leonard and Kathy Matuza of Morrisville, one grandson Justin C. Klotz and several nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his memorial service on Tuesday, Nov. 16, 2021, at 11 AM at the Morrisville United Methodist Church, 501 W. Maple Ave, Morrisville, PA.

His interment will be held privately.

Friends and family may gather from 10-11 AM at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions, in Mr. Matuza’s name, may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital ( www.stjude.org ) or to the Wounded Warrior Project ( www.woundewarriorproject.org ).

Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the J. Allen Hooper Funeral Chapel, Morrisville, PA.
