Angel Luís Cortes, Jr. age 64 of Yardley, PA was called home to eternal rest on Monday, November 8, 2021. The world has lost an incredible man- son, father, grandfather, brother, husband, and friend. Angel was a friend to all, a true angel on earth who touched more lives than we will ever know.
Angel was born in Manhattan, NY, and raised in Morrisville, PA. He met the love of his life, Cindy, in grade school. They married, welcomed their only daughter, Jessica, and built a home in Yardley, PA, where they have resided for the last 25 years, making beautiful memories and hosting many holidays and family gatherings together.
The heart of Morrisville High School’s Football team’s defense, Angel, #33, a powerful defensive back, was selected for the All-Section team and inducted into the MHS Football Hall of Fame. A talented and passionate multi-sport athlete, Angel played basketball, racquetball, volleyball, baseball, and golf.
After graduating (class of 1976), Angel went on to achieve his advanced manufacturing accreditation at Mercer County Community College. He was a master tradesman and tool and die maker.
Throughout his life and career, he was a voice and representative in leadership positions, as shop leader, shop steward, and Chairman of the Local UAW #1612, supporting Spanish-speaking fellow workers and advocating for all.
If you asked Angel, his greatest accomplishments weren’t his prowess on the athletic field or his technical skills. They were his family, his friends, and his faith.
Angel would open his heart just as readily to a lifelong friend as he would to a stranger in line at the grocery store. He had a precious gift of really, truly listening to people, accepting them for exactly who they were, giving comfort in times of need, and celebrating with them in times of joy.
He nurtured lifelong friendships and deep relationships with his family, always ready to share a laugh or a story, even during his 4-year-long fight with kidney disease. Angel continued to give to others generously despite his illness. He never hesitated to show his emotions or share his love with others, always reminding and encouraging others to keep their faith.
A member of the Grace Point Church in Newtown, he also participated in their men’s group and cherished the many relationships he built within a community of like-hearted believers.
Angel loved music, Philly sports, movies, dancing, the arts, good food, and good company. His greatest joy was his only grandson, Kyan. Whether they were tackling a Lego build, browsing for a video game, or catching a movie, these simple moments meant the world to them both.
Son of the late Angel Luis Cortes, Sr., he is survived by his devoted and loving wife Cindy Cortes, his mother Marta (Rivera) Cortes, his only daughter, Jessica Cortes, her husband, Jeffrey Fullem, his beloved grandson, Kyan Morris, his brother Herminio Cortes (Julie), his sister Rosemary Gaffney (Robert), his brother Daniel Cortes and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral service at 11 AM on Saturday, Nov. 13, 2021, at Grace Point Church, 592 Washington Crossing Road, Newtown, PA 18940. His interment will be held privately.
Friends may call Saturday from 9 AM - 11 AM at the church.
Memorial contributions, in Angel’s name, may be made to The American Kidney Fund.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the J. Allen Hooper Funeral Chapel, Morrisville, PA.
