Barbara Shirley Gillis, age 92 of Morrisville, PA passed away peacefully on Friday, November 3, 2023 at Yardley Rehabilitation Center in Lower Makefield Township. Born in Abington, PA, Barbara lived in Yardley before moving to Morrisville 50 years ago.
Prior to her retirement, Mrs. Gillis was a school teacher with the Bristol Township School District for 15 years and the Trenton School District for 5 years. She enjoyed the activities at the Morrisville Senior Service Center and was an active member of the Morrisville United Methodist Church. An avid skier, she was a member of the Trenton Ski Club, and was skiing into her 70’s. Barbara also enjoyed gardening, reading, knitting, and was an avid reader. Mrs. Gillis was a lover of animals, as well as an artist, specifically using pencil and watercolor.
Daughter of the late William Hirst and Winifred (Emley) wells, and wife of the late John S. Gillis, she is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law Shirley A. and Timothy South of Morrisville, PA and Susan M. and Erik Vallow of New Hope, PA, a son and his fiance’ Thomas M. Gillis and Lori Tomlinson of Morrisville, a sister Patricia Clark of Hilltown, PA, seven grandchildren Kevin South, Michael Gillis, Jessica South, Melissa Gillis, and Noah, Elli and Nathan Vallow., as well as four great grandchildren Aubree, Hayleigh, Abrianna and Mikayla.
Her services and burial in St. Mary Cemetery in Trenton will be held privately at the convenience of the family.
