Betty R. Petersen (born Burlingame) died on July 17, 2014. She was 90 years old. Betty was pre-deceased by her husband of 63 years, Robert F. (Pete) in 2010. Betty was born and raised in Worcester, MA, and was graduated from Simmons College in 1946 with a Bachelor of Science degree. She was a resident of Lower Makefield Township for 54 years and had lived in Warminster, PA, since 2009. Betty was devoted to her family and friends and was known for seeing and creating beauty. She enjoyed the new in life, meeting new people, learning new things and going new places. Her love of travel was reflected in her work in the travel industry. Playing bridge, tennis and golf were among her activities and pleasures, as was her interest in art appreciation. Betty had completed the Certificate Program of the Violette de Mazia Foundation. Betty was a leader and member in many local organizations, among them the American Association of University Women, Planned Parenthood, Questers, the Lower Makefield Historical Society and several book groups. She was an active, long-time member of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Washington Crossing, where she and Pete were honored in 2010 for 50 years of service. Betty is survived by her children Eric (Kathy) of Stamford, CT, Lin (Rick) of Berwyn, PA, and Steven of Briarcliff Manor, NY as well as five grandchildren, John (Rose) Koenig, Molly (Mark) Deschenes, and Ben, Jane and Tess Petersen. She also leaves her sister Shirley Johnston and brother Clement (Donna) Burlingame. Her brother Robert passed away in 2013.Betty will be buried in Thompson Memorial Cemetery in New Hope, PA. In keeping with her wishes, the graveside service will be private, with family members only in attendance.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Unitarian Universalist Service Committee (uusc.org) or Cure PSP(psp.org).
