Mrs. Christine (Chrystya) Dolnyckyj (nee Chajkowsky) passed away at Arcadia Nursing Home on Thursday November 22, 2018 in Hamilton, NJ at the age of 81.
Christine was born on June 26, 1937 in Kolomyia, Ukraine to Jurij and Maria (Bedrylo) Chajkowsky. At a very early age Christine moved to Insel Riems, Germany where her father started working at the Friedrich Loeffler Institute (FLI), a National Institute for Animal Health of Germany. Christine, along with her widowed mother and 3 sisters immigrated to America when she was 13. They settled in the Northern Liberties section of Philadelphia to be close to her paternal grandparents, Antin and Mychajlyna. She graduated from Hallahan High School in Philadelphia. In 1961, she married the love of her life, Zenon Dolnyckyj. The couple welcomed their only child, Anna-Maria "Anya" into their home a few years later. Christine moved to New Jersey to live with Anya, Paul, and her grandchildren in 2001.
Christine was a talented artist and craftswoman and often shared her talent of Pysanky (Ukrainian Easter eggs), ceramics, beading, embroidery, and knitting. Christine was always generous, witty, and loved spending time with family and working on these craft projects or playing cards. She worked at Perfect Photo, and Bee's Ceramics. In earlier years, Christine was active in the Ukrainian National Women's League of America, Inc. (Philadelphia Branch 43).
Christine is preceded in death by her husband Zenon Dolnyckyj, and sister Martha Conway.
She is the beloved mother of Anya Fat and husband Paul; loving grandmother of Gregory (Maria), and Christina; sister of Larissa Shpon (recently widowed), Vera Chajkowsky-Dutton; Sister-in-law of Luba Onuferko; cousin to Marta Tarnawsky, Mortia Holowinsky (Andrij), and George Chajkowsky (Anita) with families; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Christine, under the direction of Fletcher-Nasevich, will begin 9:00am with a viewing Saturday, December 1, at J. Allen Hooper Funeral Chapel, 41 West Trenton Ave., Morrisville, PA, 19067, with Panakhyda prayers being sung at 10:15AM. An 11:00AM Requiem Liturgy will follow at St. Josaphat Ukrainian Catholic Church, 1195 Deutz Ave., Hamilton, NJ. Burial will take place afterward at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Elkins Park, PA.
