David Austin Churchill

David Austin Churchill, 72, of Fernandina Beach, Florida and Cashiers, North Carolina passed away October 16th in Asheville North Carolina due to complications from Legionnaires disease.

The son of Walter and Lois Scherrer Churchill was born on February 4, 1947 in Princeton, New Jersey. He resided in Yardley, Pennsylvania until permanently relocating to Fernandina Beach, Florida in 2007.  David graduated from Pennsbury High School in 1965 and went on to graduate from Temple University in 1970. He was a successful businessman and, along with his brother Ben, co-owner of Mercer Oxygen and Supply Company in Trenton, New Jersey until his retirement in 2007. David was a proud veteran of the Vietnam War serving with the US Army Military Assistance Command Vietnam (MACV); he was awarded the Army Commendation Medal, National Defense Service Medal and Vietnam Service Medal.  David was honorably discharged after attaining the rank of Captain.

David enjoyed traveling, hunting, fishing and in his earlier years coaching his children's soccer teams. He will be remembered for his dry sense of humor and his love of telling stories and jokes with his family and great circle of friends.

David is survived by his sons, David Pursell (Alona) of San Francisco California and Adam Churchill (Onjira) of Bellingham Washington, his daughter Emily Churchill (Anthony) of Langhorne, Pennsylvania, as well as a grandson Rocky Pursell of San Francisco, California.  He is also survived by his sister, Carol McDonald of East Lyme, Connecticut and his brother Jay Churchill (Alison) of Ashville, New York and many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by a brother Walter Benjamin Churchill II, brother in law Frank McDonald and nephews David McDonald, Benjamin Churchill III and William Churchill.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his memorial service at 1 PM on Friday, November 15, 2019 at the J. Allen Hooper Funeral Chapel, 41 W. Trenton Ave., Morrisville, PA  19067. A military ceremony at Washington Crossing National Cemetery will follow at 2:30PM.

Friends may gather at the funeral chapel from 12 PM until time of services.
