David Thomas Matthews, Sr., age 82, of Forked River, NJ, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 3, 2019 at his home. Born in Philadelphia, PA, Mr. Matthews lived in Levittown, PA from 1961-1986, Chesterfield, NJ from 1986 - 1996, and has lived in Forked River since 1996.
Mr. Matthews served his electrical apprenticeship with U.S. Steel in Fairless Hills. He was an electrical contractor and co-owner of Baker and Matthews Electrical Construction, owner of David T. Matthews Electrical Construction, and was a member of Local # 269 I.B.E.W. He was also a member of the Elks Lodge in Forked River and the Bordentown Yacht Club, as well as the National Electrical Contractor's Association. David enjoyed sailing and boating, photography, ham radios and skiing, and was a model railroad enthusiast. He was an early computer programmer who designed and built his own home.
Son of the late John and Caroline (Heinzer) Matthews, and brother of the late Caroline Matthews, he is survived by his wife of 64 years Evelyn (Greenlee) Matthews, two sons and daughters-in-law David T. and Diane Matthews of Morrisville, PA, and Mark and Eleanor Matthews of Yardley, PA, a daughter and son-in-law Melody and Edward Jacko of Levittown, his brother John Matthews of Springfield, PA, seven grandchildren, Grant, Dean, Devon, Luke and Alyssa Matthews and Jason and Justin Jacko, and several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral service at 12 Noon on Friday, March 8, 2019 at the J. Allen Hooper Funeral Chapel, 41 W. Trenton Ave., Morrisville, PA. His interment will be held privately.
Friends may call Friday morning from 10AM - 12 Noon at the funeral chapel.
