Diaz, M. Diaz (dobler)

DIAZ, Alice ("Alyce") M. (nee Dobler) currently of Langhorne, Bucks County and formerly of Yardley and Philadelphia, died on August 2, 2013 at the age of 96. She is the widow of Eloy J. Diaz (d. 1978) and Robert F. Sharkey (d. 1943), both of Philadelphia. Mrs. Diaz was predeceased by her parents, Frederick J. and Anna Rufe Dobler, and her brother and sisters, Frederick J. Jr., Anna Tierney Burgess, Alma Kovach, and Doris Moyer Waggoner. She is survived by her daughter, Alyce M. Diaz, Esquire, and son-in-law, Dr. Robert L. Walker, of Yardley, PA., step-grandson, Brent D. Walker, his wife Kathleen Yanno Walker, and children Owen Walker and Ada Walker, and several nieces, grandnephews and grandnieces. Mrs. Diaz was graduated from Kensington High School for Girls in 1935. During World War II she worked in the defense industry inspecting the ball bearings used in most military machinery. On the occasion of her first husband's death, when she wanted to make a complete change in her life, she needed special permission to leave her job supporting the war effort. She then worked at the St. James Hotel in Philadelphia, where she met Eloy Diaz. In later years, she was a teller at the Girard Bank Main Office in Center City and, after retiring, worked part time until age 86, when she admitted she was a little tired. Always healthy and energetic, Mrs. Diaz loved travel, especially to her husband's native Spain, the UK, and other European countries. She was active in the several Episcopal churches she attended over the years, was dedicated to her family and many friends, and loved animals. Gifts in her memory may be made to The Bucks County SPCA, Street Road, Lahaska, PA 18931 or the Episcopal Church of the Incarnation, 1505 Makefield Road, Morrisville, PA 19067. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the Church of the Incarnation on Wednesday, August 7, 2013 at 11 AM with a visitation hour prior to the service. Interment at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery will be private. Arrangements have been entrusted to the J. Allen Hooper Funeral Home, Morrisville, PA (www.hooperfuneralchapel.com).
