Dolores W. Carlen, age 86, of Zephyrhills, FL, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 12, 2018 at the home of her daughter in Morrisville, PA. Dolores was born in Wynnefield, PA, and was raised in Media, PA. She moved to Morrisville in 1954, and retired to Zephyrhills in 1990.
Mrs. Carlen graduated from Media High School, Class of 1949, where she was a drum majorette and twirler. She worked for Scott Paper and New Jersey Manufacturers Insurance, and then became a secretary in the Pupil Services Department of the Pennsbury School District, located in the administration building, for 20 years.
Dolores was an active volunteer with Deborah Hospital, a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Neshaminy Chapter, a mother advisor for the Rainbow Girls, a member of the Betmar Acres Shuffle Club, and a Queen of Betmar Acres. Among her many interests, she was an avid football fan, and was a former Eaglette for the Philadelphia Eagles. Dolores loved to sew and cook, dance and entertain, play cards, usually pinochle, and playing golf.
Daughter of the late William R. and Elinore (Hazelett) Wilson, and mother of the late Brenda R. Zellner, she is survived by her loving husband of 66 years Arthur H. Carlen, three daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara D. and Stephen Schaller of Lawrenceville, GA, Cynthia C. and David Powell of Morrisville, PA, and Cathleen S. and Chris Lindauer of Abingdon, MD, a sister Elinore Wynne of Cumming, GA, eight grandchildren, Conor and Brooke Zellner, Ava Zellner, Stephen, Jr., Charles J. and Brian A Schaller, Heather Errhalt and Valerie Karkosh, six great grandchildren, Hailey, Tyler, Grant, Cooper, Della and Hudson, and several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral service at 11 AM on Saturday, August 18, 2018 at the J. Allen Hooper Funeral Chapel, 41 W. Trenton Ave., Morrisville, PA. The Rev. Wendy Bellis, Pastor of the Morrisville United Methodist Church, will officiate. Her interment will be held privately, at the convenience of the family, at Washington Crossing National Cemetery, Newtown, PA.
Friends may call Friday evening from 7-9 PM, and on Saturday morning from 10-11 AM at the funeral chapel.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions, in Mrs. Carlen’s name, be sent to the Brenda Carlen Zellner Memorial Scholarship, c/o Pennsbury Scholarship Foundation, 134 Yardley Ave., Fallsington, PA 19054, or, to a charity of the donor’s choice.
