Dorothy Cecilie Nelson, age 86, of Morrisville, PA, died on Thursday, December 28, 2017 at her home. Born in Union City, NJ, Dorothy lived in Northern New Jersey before moving to Morrisville 52 years ago.
Dorothy had been employed as a secretary for several local businesses through the years. She was a member of the Lutheran Church of the Resurrection in Yardley. An avid bowler, she was a member of the 500 club, past director of the local Women's International Bowling Congress, and past secretary and treasurer for two local leagues. Dorothy served as Sergeant-of-Arms for the Bucks County Bowling Association (BCBA). In October 2017 she was inducted into the Bucks County Bowling Association Hall of Fame for meritorious service.
Involved in her children's interests, she supported them in their varied activities. She taught Sunday school at Zion Lutheran in Saddle River, NJ. A Morrisville High School band supporter, she sewed color guard and majorette uniforms and chaperoned the band on many trips. She made costumes for many of the high school's performances and also served as a Girl Scout troop leader and a Cub Scout den mother. In her spare time she enjoyed traveling, particularly to warmer climates, learning about her Nordic heritage, and doing cross stitch needle work.
She was an inspiration to all of us. She taught us about love, faith and hard work.
Daughter of the late Henry and Hanna (Hedin) Hall, wife of the late Edward F. Nelson, Sr., and sister of the late Evelyn Midboe, she is survived by four daughters and three sons-in-law Elaine and Jim Haley of O'Fallon, MO, Anne Nelson of Morrisville, Gail and Tom Kennette of Robbinsville, NJ and Joanne and Tim McKenna of Levittown, two sons and daughters-in-law Ed and Mary Ellen Nelson of Robbinsville, NJ and Michael and Sherry Nelson of Sharon, SC, a brother and sister-in-law Richard and Loretta Hall of Goodyear, AZ, nine grandchildren David, Michael, Joan, Casey, Tara, Matthew, Daniel, Valerie and Brianna, eight great grandchildren Ella, James, Jace, Allison, Sean, Sophia, Lyla and Sloane, and several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral service at 11 AM on Friday, Jan. 5, 2018 at the Lutheran Church of the Resurrection, 1700 Makefield Rd., Yardley, PA 19067. The Rev. Kristina Ahlman, Pastor, will officiate. Her entombment in Princeton Memorial Park will be held privately at the convenience of the family.
Friends may call Thursday evening from 6-8 PM at the J. Allen Hooper Funeral Chapel, 41 W. Trenton Ave., Morrisville, PA, and on Friday morning from 10-11 AM at the church.
