Dr. Bruce N. Steinberg, better known by family and friends as Doc, 89, of Hatboro, died Saturday July 20, 2024 at Doylestown Hospital.
Doc was born and raised in Philadelphia to the late Florence and Harry Steinberg. He graduated from Overbrook High School and then enlisted in the United States Air Force where he proudly served during the Korean Conflict from 1954 to 1958. After being honorably discharged, he attended Temple University on the GI Bill where he received his Doctorate in Physics. He worked as a Physicist for the Naval Air Development Center in Warminster, PA for many years before his retirement. Because of Docs’ specialty in underwater acoustics, he had the opportunity to travel to all corners of the globe. Doc visited every continent except Antarctica and shared wonderful stories about drinking in Hemingway’s bar in Africa, watching the sun set over Mallory Square in Key West, and watching people run boats across a dry, sandy lakebed in Alice Springs Australia. Of all the places he visited, he enjoyed Australia and New Zealand most. He instilled his love of travel in his children.
In Doc’s free time, he enjoyed visiting the VFW (Post 6493) and laughing over a cold beer with family and friends. He was a fan of the Phillies and Flyers but his number one team was the Philadelphia Eagles.
He is survived by his beloved long-time partner, Mary Reingruber; his son, Marc Steinberg and his wife, Maria Day; his daughter, Jennifer Smith and her husband, Jeffrey; along with extended family and the friends he made throughout his lifetime.
A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday July 25, 2024, in the Washington Crossing National Cemetery, 830 Highland Road Newtown, PA 18940. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in Doc’s memory to his favorite charity, the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758516, Topeka, Kansas 66675-8516. Please keep the family in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
