Dr. Ngozi Ruth Ahia (known to her friends as Ruth), age 68 of Yardley, PA passed from this life into the embrace of her heavenly Father on Friday, June 14, 2024, at Jefferson Bucks Hospital, Langhorne, PA.
Ruth was born and raised in Umuahia, Nigeria. Upon immigrating to the United States, she took residence with her husband and family in Carbondale, Illinois, where she earned her Ph.D. in public health from Southern Illinois University, making her the first person from her family of origin to earn a doctoral degree. Following her graduation, she and her husband moved their family to Fayetteville, Arkansas where they both worked as college professors at the University of Arkansas. Following their time in Arkansas, she and her family moved to Yardley PA, where she has resided for 35 years. She was employed as a Research Scientist for the State of New Jersey and also worked as a professor of Public Health at Central Michigan University, East Campus.
Ruth was a long-standing member of Calvary Full Gospel Church in Fairless Hills. She also participated in the local and East Region chapters of African Christian Fellowship, where she served as treasurer and as a member of the executive committee. She enthusiastically supported the Women’s Ministry of Abia State, Nigeria a ministry that was near to her heart. Aside from her ministry endeavors, among her varied interests, she enjoyed shopping, cooking, reading, fashion, and travel. Most of all, she loved spending time with her grandchildren. Her priority was to ensure that they grew to know the Lord and to love and serve Him.
Daughter of the late Rev. Rowland and Comfort (Ebilogu) Onokalah, she is survived by her husband, Dr. C. Emmanuel Ahia and their four children: daughter and son-in-law Ijeoma and Stephen Ibeh of Smithfield, VA; son and daughter-in-law Chichi and Sabrina Ahia of Newtown, PA, Chidinma Harley of Fairfax, VA, and Chuks Ahia of Bensalem, PA. She is also survived by her six beloved grandchildren – Sheliya Grace Ahia, Moriah Ahia, Annalise Joy Ahia, Joshua and Caleb Ahia and Lily-Rose Ruth Ahia as well as five surviving siblings, numerous nieces and nephews, and many other family members and friends who loved her dearly.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her viewing on Friday, June 28th from 4 PM to 7 PM and also on Saturday, June 29th from 8:30 AM to 9:45 AM at Calvary Full Gospel Church in Fairless Hills, PA.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 29th at 10 AM on at Calvary Full Gospel Church. The address of the church is 676 Lincoln Highway, Fairless Hills, PA 19030.
Following the memorial service, a private entombment will be held for family only at Rosedale Memorial Park, Bensalem, PA.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider making a memorial contribution, in honor of Dr. Ruth Ahia’s, to the Women’s Ministry of Abia State, Nigeria. Donations can be made payable to Calvary Full Gospel Church for the benefit of the Women’s Ministry of Abia State, Nigeria. The funds will be remitted accordingly.
