Eleanor Marie Crawford, wife of the late Francis Patrick Crawford, loving mother and grandmother, artist, gardener, and friend to all living beings, died with peace and grace at home in Morrisville on December 21, 2013. Elly was born in Brooklyn, New York in 1925 and grew up in Hicksville, Long Island with her parents Anna and Joe, beloved brothers Paul and the late Joe Heim. She had a sister Elizabeth who died in infancy. In 1945, Elly received a degree in Fine Art from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn. She shared her sense of beauty in the extraordinary paintings, drawings and quilts she created. She taught her children and grandchildren to notice the color in winter landscapes, and the names of the birds, trees and flowers that surrounded their homes in Long Island and Pennsylvania. With the Lower Makefield Women's Club she worked on quilts that were sold to benefit local organizations. In addition to awards she won for her paintings, in 1961 she won a contest to name a rose, "King's Ransom". Elly married her teenage sweetheart Francis "Pat" Crawford after World War II, whom she had met through her good friend Laury Crawford, Pat's sister. Elly and Pat raised eight children and remained lifelong loves. She is survived by her brother and his wife Paul and Mary Heim, and her children: Marilyn Crawford and Chris Morrill, Kathy Franklin, James Crawford and Sharon Harrold, Christine Crawford Netter and Todd Netter, Thomas Crawford and Ellen Kelly Crawford, Brian Crawford and Charito Mallen-Crawford, Tricia Crawford Coscia and Joe Coscia, Laura Crawford Herron and Keith Herron.
