Elisabeth Mary (Fitzgerald) Castrodale, 78, of Yardley, PA, passed away on Tuesday, May 12th, 2015, peacefully attended by members of her family. She was the loving wife of Phillip Castrodale for 31 years and the former wife of the late John ("Jack" ) Shields. Born in Newton, MA, she was the daughter of William and Elsie (Dunleavy) Fitzgerald. Elisabeth was a member of the 1955 graduating class of Our Lady's Catholic High School in Newton. She attended Chandler's School for Women in Boston, MA and specialized in their legal secretarial program, graduating in 1957. She worked in Boston until she was married in April of 1959 to Jack and had the first of their three children in 1960. Together they resided first in Watertown, MA, then Brockton, MA and later Levittown, PA. Among her positions, Beth worked for Betz Laboratories in Trevose, PA for ten years and for the law firm of Meredith, Meredith and Chase for 15 years. Elisabeth married Phillip Castrodale June 21, 1984 and they were devoted to each other for 31 years, residing in Yardley, PA but traveling annually to their favorite spots in Vermont and Maine. Elisabeth, known in her early years as Betty and in later years as Beth, was devoted to her family. She was the beloved mother of Kathleen Shields married to Jay Spitzenberger of Indianapolis, IN, Michael Shields married to Pamela of Plymouth, MA, and Lori (Shields) McDevitt married to Timothy McDevitt of Yardley, PA. She was the loving sister of Martha Ann Fitzgerald of Framingham, MA, William Fitzgerald and his wife Dora of Waretown, NJ, Margaret Fitzgerald of Needham, MA and Mary (Fitzgerald) DiSciullo and her late husband Bill of Needham, MA. She was the adoring grandmother of Samantha and Monica Shields, Amanda, Jeremy and Riley Spitzenberger, and Brady McDevitt. She also leaves behind a sister-in-law Lodina (Castrodale) Lepard and her husband Gene and her beloved nieces and nephews, Julie (DiSciullo) Kelleher, William DiSciullo Jr, Amy and Lisa Fitzgerald and Justin and Ryan Lepard. Arrangements have been made with J. Allen Hooper Funeral Home in Morrisville, PA. The family will receive friends on Friday evening, May 22, 2015 from 6:30 - 8:30 PM in the parish hall of St. Andrews Episcopal Church, 47 West Afton Avenue, Yardley, PA. A Eucharistic Service of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, May 23, 2015 at 10:30 AM at St. Andrews Episcopal Church, followed by a burial ceremony in the adjacent cemetery. Beth was a woman who loved to be outdoors, loved to hike and cross country ski. She was an accomplished pianist and passionately loved music and ball room dance. With her love of music and the outdoors in mind, donations in her memory may be made to the Music Ministry of the St. Andrews Episcopal Church (standrews-yardley.org) or to Heifer International, an organization Beth and Phil have long supported.
