Elizabeth Marie (Zillgenz) Alvino

Elizabeth Marie “Bette” Alvino, age 97 of Yardley, PA passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 12, 2023 at Chandler Hall Hospice, Newtown, PA.  Bette was born in Newark, NJ, and raised nearby in Belleville. After she married, she lived in Iselin NJ for five years before moving to  Piscataway, NJ, where she raised her family. She spent the last forty years in her “dream home” in Yardley, PA.

Mrs. Alvino was a graduate of Belleville High School.  She worked as a comptometer operator for Pittsburgh Plate Glass and Philadelphia Quartz until she and her husband started a family. As a homemaker, Bette loved to sew, bake, and decorate. She enjoyed many foreign and domestic trips with family and friends. An active parishioner of St. Ignatius of Antioch Roman Catholic Church, she participated as an usher and by preparing meals for Caring for Friends. She was also a member of the Lower Makefield Women’s Club, the Sons of Italy in Morrisville, and the Lower Makefield Senior Center.  She had a love of gardening and crafts such as knitting and Scherenschnitte.  One of her favorite activities, along with her late husband, was attending plays, concerts, and musicals at the Bristol Riverside Theater.

Daughter of the late Gerhard and Mary (Schweighardt) Zillgenz, and devoted wife of the late Samuel T. Alvino, she is survived by two daughters, Elizabeth Marie Alvino of Newtown and Jean Ann (Jeffrey) Honig, four grandchildren Jonathan Gabbianelli, Sara Gabbianelli, Ellyn (Edherson) Thalout, and Christian Gabbianelli, and four great grandchildren, Harper, Laila, Daphne and Kai.

Relatives and friends are invited to celebrate her Funeral Mass on Friday, July 21, 2023 at St. Ignatius of Antioch Roman Catholic Church, 999 Reading Ave., Morrisville, PA  19067.  Her interment will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery, 340 Ridge Road, North Arlington, NJ  07031.

Friends may call Thursday evening, July 20th, from 6-8 PM, and on Friday morning from 9:30 – 10:30 AM at the J. Allen Hooper Funeral Chapel, 41 W. Trenton Ave., Morrisville, PA  19067.
