Fannie Lou Galloway O'Brien, 90, formerly of St. David's, Pa, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 10, 2017 at Buckingham Valley Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, Buckingham, PA. Fannie was a devoted wife of the late Richard W. O'Brien, caring mom, mother-in-law, beloved grandmother, loving sister, aunt, sister-in-law, and dear friend. Born and raised in the Wheeling, WV area, Fannie was one of ten children of the late William. C. "Cliff" and Callie (Beasley) Galloway. Fannie is survived by her children Knute, Rick(Barb), Greg(Julie), Phil(Irina), Mark(Lynne), and Heidi(Craig), as well as 17 grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.Fannie met Richard O'Brien at a Poconos sports camp and they married July 4, 1953. They raised their family in the Radnor, Pa area where they lived for 35 years before retiring to Sarasota, FL. After enjoying the Florida sun for 15 years, they moved to Marietta, GA to be closer to family. A short time after Rich passed in 2011, Fannie moved back to Pennsylvania to be near family there for her final years.Fannie was known for her sharp wit, quick temper, strong will and love for all. She loved to be active through all the seasons of her life. As a Mom she was frequently transporting six kids around to numerous sports activities, while also participating individually and with Rich in bowling leagues, curling, golf and bridge clubs. She enjoyed volunteering and did so throughout her life at places including the Wayne library, Radnor Democratic committee, and Sarasota Meals on Wheels. Fannie enjoyed being part of the leadership team of most every organization she joined, including the Pittsburgh chapter of the National Secretaries Association, the Saturday Club of Wayne, PA, her Neighborhood Home Owners Association in The Meadows, FL, the Sarasota Red Hatters and the Welcoming Committee in her assisted living home in Marietta, GA. Before raising her family, Fannie worked as an executive secretary at US Steel in Pittsburgh. Later she showed her entrepreneurial spirit by starting a secretarial business, Pierce and O'Brien, in the mid-1970's before then going to work for one of her clients until she retired in 1988.Funeral services will be held in the Atlanta, GA area and Fannie will be interred with her beloved Rich at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, GA.
