Freda Cynthia Mockenhaupt was born on December 18, 1934, in Beauharnois, Quebec, Canada, and passed away peacefully on February 24, 2025 in Holland, Pennsylvania. She leaves behind a legacy rich in compassion, creativity, and dedication.
Freda dedicated over 40 years of her life to working as a registered nurse. She graduated from McGill University and the Montreal General Hospital nursing school in Canada and moved to New York City as a young adult. She worked at several prestigious hospitals in New York City and concluded her career with 17 years of service at the American Red Cross. Her commitment to helping others was evident in her work, and she carried that passion throughout her life.
For 25 years, Freda called Fairless Hills, Pennsylvania, her home before moving to Yardley, where she resided for the last 30 years. Community and family were important to her, and she nurtured connections with everyone around her. Freda also had a passion for travel, making unforgettable memories in places like Alaska and Hawaii.
Freda had a love for quilting and took great joy in sewing treasured pieces for family and friends. She was delighted to volunteer her time at Quilts for Kids which showcased her joy of quilting, hospital experience, love of children and artistic spirit all in one place. Hundreds of children in local hospitals were comforted by Freda’s quilts.
Freda is survived by her loving family, including Carl and Susan Mockenhaupt of Yardley, PA, Crista Mockenhaupt and Joseph Cafone of Boynton Beach, FL, and her cherished grandchildren, Benjamin, Zachary, and Olivia. Additionally, she is remembered fondly by many nieces and nephews.
Freda was preceded in death by her 5 siblings (Cecil, Inez, Edna, Joyce and Shirley) and her beloved parents, Edward William Hunter and Dorothy Harper Hunter. Her memory will forever be etched in the hearts of all who knew her, as they celebrate a life well-lived and the contributions she made to her family and community.
A visitation will take place on Monday, March 31 at 10 AM at St. Ignatius of Antioch Roman Catholic Church, 999 Reading Ave., Yardley, PA, followed a Memorial Mass at 11 AM.
