Gerald Patrick Higham, 77, passed away on Friday, Jan. 4, 2013, at his home surrounded by loving family.Born in Trenton, he had resided in Mercer County all of his life. He graduated from Trenton Catholic Boys High School in 1953, St. Joseph's University in 1957 and Fordham University School of Law in 1960. In his long and distinguished legal career he served as law clerk to the Honorable Richard J. Hughes, as Assistant Prosecutor of Mercer County, Deputy Public Defender of Mercer County, and retired as a Deputy Attorney General for the State of New Jersey. He was admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court in 1977. Jerry was active in the March of Dimes, serving as chairman for many years. He was also president of the Young Democrats and former president of the Mercer County Irish American Association. More recently he served as vice president of the Foxmoor Master Association and president of the Andover Glen Association. Jerry was predeceased by his parents, Justus C. "Red" Higham and Eleanor Yard Higham, his sister, Mary Lou Sheppard and his brother, Justus C. Higham, Jr. Jerry is survived by his beloved daughter, Andrea, his two cherished grandchildren, Alexander Paul and Charlotte Elizabeth, and his former wife and close friend, Mary Ann Higham. He is also survived by his brothers, William, Michael, Timothy, Anthony, Stephen, Dennis and Terence Higham. Additionally he is survived by his sisters, Carol McNamara, Eleanor Panfen, Kathy Higham Iavarone, Jane Thiel and Susan Higham Baker, and numerous nieces and nephews. Jerry will be sorely missed by family and friends who enjoyed his never-ending sense of humor.Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Gregory the Great Roman Catholic Church, 4620 Nottingham Way, Hamilton. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family. Relatives and friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and again on Wednesday from 9 a.m. until time of departure for Mass at the J. Allen Hooper Funeral Chapel, 41 W. Trenton Ave., Morrisville, Pa. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions to Animals in Distress, 102 Winding Way, Hamilton, NJ 08620.
