James Francis Atkinson, Jr.

November 20, 1946 — September 8, 2021

Fallsington, PA

James “Jim” Francis Atkinson Jr., age 74 of Fallsington, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Sept. 8th, 2021 at Samaritan Center in Mt. Holly, NJ. Born in Philadelphia, Jim was raised in Trevose, PA before moving to Fallsington, PA 50 years ago.

Son of the late James Francis and Ruth (Dawley) Atkinson, Jim was a 1965 graduate of Neshaminy High School. Upon graduation, he went on to proudly serve in the U.S. Navy as a Gunner’s Mate. After completing active duty he went on to continue his military service as part of the Naval Reserve, at which time he entered employment at the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard as a Rigger & Diver, where he would remain for nearly thirty years. Jim enjoyed being involved in his favorite clubs and organizations and was an active member of the American Legion, Fraternal Order of Eagles, Hemlock Rod & Gun Club and Wild Turkey Hunt Club. Jim was also proud of the time he spent assisting at Ground Zero after the September 11th, 2001 attacks.

A lifelong outdoorsman, Jim could often be found on the water deep sea fishing off the Atlantic Coast or at another one of his favorite places, Kodiak Island in Alaska. He could always be found tending to his garden over many summers. But the most joy he had was the time spent with his family, including his son, Steven Atkinson of Fairless Hills and his daughter Jenine Atkinson of Fallsington. His three grandchildren, Jake, Toria, and Haley were the lights of his life.

In addition to his children and grandchildren, Jim is survived by his daughter-in-law Kate, his beloved “Sweetie-Pie” and partner Donna Schnoering, her daughter and son-in-law Sarah & Rob James, and granddaughter Layla. He also leaves behind three brothers and five sisters: Robert & Andrea Atkinson of Trevose, William Atkinson of Feasterville, Dennis Atkinson of Trevose, Anna & Richard Krotee of Chestertown, MD, Ruth & Sam Lagana of Sellersville, PA, Kathleen Hinchliffe & Tim Creighton of Deland, FL, Diane & Tyler Henry of Feasterville and Karen & Robert Baumann of Trevose. Finally, Jim will also be missed by his many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral service Tuesday, Sept 21, 2021 at 1 PM at the J. Allen Hooper Funeral Chapel, 41 W. Trenton Ave., Morrisville PA. His interment with military honors will follow at 2:30 PM at Washington Crossing National Cemetery.

Friends may call Monday evening from 6-8 PM and on Tuesday from 12 Noon-1 PM at the funeral chapel.
