James O. Yeager

March 16, 1920 — October 11, 2014

James O. Yeager, age 94, of Morrisville, PA, died Oct. 11, 2014 at Attleboro Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Langhorne, PA. He was born in, and was a lifelong resident of, Morrisville, PA. Prior to his retirement in 1981, Mr. Yeager was employed as a supervisor with U.S. Steel for 37 years. He graduated from Morrisville High School in 1939, where he was a four letter athlete, and was later admitted to the Athletic Hall of Fame. James attended Temple University, where he continued playing football on a full scholarship. Mr. Yeager also played baseball in the Trenton Industrial League. He then entered the United States Navy, serving proudly during WWII. He served on the USS Anthony, a destroyer ship n the Pacific Front. Additional, Mr. Yeager was involved in the battles of Iwo Jima and Okinawa, providing fire support, screening, and radar duties. Mr. Yeager enjoyed vacationing at the beach, especially at his son's home in Ocean View, Delaware. He enjoyed gardening, and maintained a vegetable garden each year. He grew peach, apple, and fig trees throughout the years at his home, as well as blueberry and grape bushes. Mr. Yeager was a dog lover, and had several dogs throughout his life, including his high school mascot, a bulldog.Son of the late John and Emma (McClair) Yeager, father of the late Dean Yeager, and grandfather of the late Corey Marie Yeager, he leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife of 72 years, Marie (Frisk) Yeager, a son and daughter-in-law Doug and Marianne Yeager of Newtown, PA, his granddaughter Lisa Yeager of Morrisville, two precious great granddaughters Avery and Olivia, and several nieces and nephews.Relatives and friends are invited to attend his life celebration at 11 AM on Thursday, Oct. 16, 2014 at the J. Allen Hooper Funeral Chapel, 41 W. Trenton Ave., Morrisville, PA (www.hooperfuneralchapel.com). Interment will follow in Newtown Cemetery, Newtown, PA.Friends may call Thursday morning from 10-11 AM at the funeral chapel.In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions, in Mr. Yeager's memory, be made to the Wounded Warriors Project, www.woundedwarriorproject.org/Donate.
