Jean Hazel Wright was born on August 14, 1931 in Waverly, Virginia and departed this life on May 6, 2017. Jean was the eldest daughter of Gale and Elizabeth Parham. Her early education was in the Sussex County School System, and she attended Sussex County Training School. After relocating to the Philadelphia area, she attended Pioneer Business School. She also furthered her education by attending nursing school. Because of her love for the medical field, she earned a certification as a Medical Assistant later in life. Jean lived a life of commitment and service to the LORD! She received Christ at a young age, and she was a devoted member of Rose of Sharon Church in Waverly, Virginia. Jean taught Sunday school and directed religious pageants. Later, Jean was an usher, a member of the choir, a part of the Card Ministry, and a faithful participant in the women's Bible group, Prayer and Share. Jean was also the Mother of the Church at Prominence Church in Charlotte, North Carolina. Jean's passing causes all to reflect on many precious memories. First of all, Jean was blessed with the gift of song, and she was a favorite of a school choir director who loved her unique opera-like singing. Jean especially loved hymns like, "Steal Away" and "Jesus is All the World to Me". Jean was also known for athleticism. In high school yearbook refers to her as "Sportie O". She was great at the high jump and sports like softball and volleyball. She will be remembered for her love of flowers and plants, and the beautiful gardens she cultivated during her lifetime. In fact, her love for horticulture won her a third- place award in a Philadelphia exhibit for a three-pound turnip! Jean also frequently canned fruits and vegetables that were enjoyed by many. In addition, Jean loved family, and holiday gatherings were of special importance to her. Jean loved creating all kinds of things! She made flower arrangements, home décor, quilts for her daughters, and even arrangements for weddings. She loved family photos, and she placed them in albums and anywhere in the house where there was an empty space! Finally, Jean's family and friends will certainly remember her mouth-watering dinner rolls. Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Bennie Wright, her youngest sister, Mary Francis Cooper, and one daughter, Brenda Carter(Emmanuel). She is survived by one sister, Barbara Hunter. Jean is the proud mother of seven other surviving children - Teresa Carter, Helen Dyer(Ronald), Gayle Cabral(Ricardo), Sylvia Stroy, Carolyn Carter(Warren), Norma Stroy, and one son, Alburnie Wright(Robyn). Jean will be lovingly-remembered by her 17 grandchildren: Dionne, Larry, Dawn, Ricardo, Warren, Chanel, Shavon, Robert, Tiana, Kimberly, Emmanuel, Andreas, James, Arianna, Lesley, Destiny, and Krystal. Fond memories will also be shared by her 15 great grandchildren and her 11 great- great grandchildren, a host of nieces and nephews, spiritual daughters, extended family and friends.
