John R. Hovanec, age 82, of Morrisville, PA, died peacefully on Wednesday, April 17, 2013 at his home, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Swoyerville, PA, John lived in Kingston, PA and Trenton, NJ before moving to Morrisville in 1966.Mr. Hovanec began his working career as a bricklayer in the construction industry. He worked for Prior Typewriter Company, of Trenton, NJ for 11 years then went on to work as a corrections officer at the Trenton State Correctional Facility from 1971-1989 where he was known as "Big John". Following that, he worked at the St. Francis Medical Center Prison Unit from 1989 until his retirement in 1995. John was an Army Veteran of the Korean War, and was a member of the Disabled American Veterans and the Morrisville American Legion. He was a parishioner of Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church in Morrisville. An avid bowler, John loved traveling, vacationing in Ocean City, MD, but mostly he cherished spending time with his family, especially his grandsons.Son of the late John and Victoria Hovanec, and brother of the late George Hovanec and Mary Geoghagon, he is survived by his beloved wife, Mary Louise Lemes Hovanec, two daughters, Susan Hovanec and Nancy Hovanec-Bill, both of Morrisville, a former son-in-law Robert S. Bill of Croydon, a brother, Frank Hovanec of Swoyerville, PA, a sister, Florence Hovanec of Wilkes Barre, PA, two grandchildren, Tyler and Tanner Bill, and many nieces and nephews.Relatives and friends are invited to celebrate his funeral mass at 10 AM on Monday, April 22, 2013 at Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church, 201 N. Pennsylvania Ave, Morrisville, PA. The Rev. John Eckert, Pastor, will celebrate the mass. His committal service, military honors, and interment will be held on Tuesday, April 23, 2013 at 11 AM at Washington Crossing National Cemetery, 830 Highland Rd., Newtown, PA.Friends may call Sunday evening from 6-9 PM, and on Monday morning from 8:30 - 9:30 AM at the J. Allen Hooper Funeral Chapel, 41 W.
