John Stefero, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, peacefully passed away on February 1, 2025. He was born on July 2, 1940, in Frackville, Pennsylvania, to John Stefura (Stefero) and Catherine Kessock Stefero and resided in Morrisville, Pennsylvania for over 50 years, where he built his home and raised his family. He is preceded in death by his sister and brother-in-law, Sadie and Frank Monti, brother-in-law, Richard Howe, and brother-in-law, Frank Chukoskie.
An alumnus of Frackville High School’s class of 1958, John earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Penn State. He proudly served in the United States Army as an aviator in the Vietnam War, achieving the rank of 1st Lieutenant and earning the Distinguished Flying Cross. John had a long career as a commercial airline pilot, dedicating 30 years of his life to TWA.
Outside of his professional and military career, John had a lifelong passion for music, singing in high school quartets, church choirs, The Key of E quartet, the Squires of Bucks Barbershop group, and Voices Chorale of Princeton. He was also known for his skill of carpentry, his vegetable and rose gardens, cooking, and his well-loved banana bread. In addition to these hobbies, John was a member in the Morrisville Yardley Rotary Club, the American Legion Knowles/Doyle Post #327, and the Yardley VFW.
John is survived by his loving wife, Darla R. Chukoskie Stefero, celebrating 60 years of marriage. He leaves behind a devoted family, including his son Nick and daughter-in-law Jennifer Stefero, daughter Sara and son-in-law Jason Steele, and son Matthew and daughter-in-law Kristy Stefero. He was a loving and proud grandfather to his six grandchildren; Charlie, Katherine, Margaret, Elise, Jake, and Emily, who brought him immense joy. John is also survived by his sister Elizabeth Howe, and his sister Anna and brother-in-law Charles Hower, sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Judy and Toni Lupino, and sister-in-law, Pat Chukoskie, and many nieces and nephews.
The family invites friends and loved ones to celebrate his life during visitation on February 13, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM, followed by Liturgy at 12:00 PM, all held at St. Vladimir Orthodox Church, 812 Grand St, Trenton, NJ. Interment will follow at Washington Crossing National Cemetery in Newtown, PA at 2:00 PM.
