Joyce Christensen, age 78 of Lower Makefield Township, PA, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 10, 2021, at Jefferson University Hospital after experiencing complications from heart surgery, with her husband of 56 years by her side. Mrs. Christensen was born in Berwyn, IL, grew up in La Grange Park, IL, and spent a number of years in the Kansas City area before moving to Yardley 45 years ago.
A graduate of Lyons Township High School in La Grange, IL, Joyce earned her B.S. degree at Iowa State University where she was a member of Gamma Phi Beta sorority and met her future husband. Prior to her retirement, she was employed by the State of NJ as a librarian at the NJ State Library Talking Book and Braille Center for 25 years. Gifted with a phenomenal sense of humor, Joyce could light up a room with her smile and people loved being around her. She was an avid reader. She loved to travel with her family and was able to visit all 50 states, Canada, and Europe. She was especially fond of cruising. Mrs. Christensen enjoyed watching Philadelphia sports with her family, especially the Eagles and Phillies. She also loved college football, with her favorite teams being the Iowa State Cyclones and the universities that her family members attended. She volunteered for many of her children’s activities, was a former Girl Scout leader, member of the PTO and enjoyed cross stitch and knitting. Springtime made her happy because the daffodils would be in bloom.
Daughter of the late Frederick Taylor and Jane (Vial) Battey, she is survived by her loving husband Glenn K. Christensen, a daughter Pamela Christensen of Newtown, PA two sons and daughters-in-law Brian Christensen and Agatha Del Pozo of Broomfield, CO and David and Misty Christensen of Holly Springs, NC, two sisters and brothers-in-law Cobe and Bruce Frobes of Rio Verde, AZ and Dinah and Chris Bowers of White Pigeon, MI, six grandchildren Madison, Olivia, Cisco, Ashley, Landon and Grayson, and several nieces and nephews.
