Kathryn R. Wannemacher (johnson)

Kathryn R. Wannemacher, age 73, of New Britain, PA, died Sunday, January 13, 2013 in Doylestown Hospital, Doylestown, PA, in the company of her immediate family.A graduate of Pennsylvania State University (1962), Kathryn married James R. Wannemacher of Pittsburgh, Pa in 1963. They became a "pioneer family" in the new town of Columbia, MD where she participated in the formation of many of that community's organizations and institutions.Kathryn and her family moved to central Bucks County in 1984 where she became involved in the conservation of that region's rich history and natural beauty. She began by managing the restoration of the 18th century barn in which she resided and then prepared the successful application for the Spring Valley Historic District ( where she lived) to be placed on the National Register of Historic Places. Working with the Heritage Conservancy of Doylestown for more than fifteen years, she participated in the documentation of numerous buildings, communities and sites in the region, leading to their eventual recognition as valued assets of the local landscape. She was a board member of the Delaware River Greenway Partnership, a groundbreaking organization in the field of conservation greenways. She also served on the Buckingham Township Environmental Advisory Committee. Kathryn was an avid landscape designer and accomplished artist, exhibiting works in art shows throughout the Central Bucks area.Daughter of the late Bert and Louise (Lundquist) Johnson of McKeesport, and sister of the late Bert L. Johnson, she is survived by her husband, two daughters, Amy Christine Weise of Wrightstown, PA and Kara Elizabeth Wannemacher of New Britain, grandchildren Angie, Craig and Brent Weise, and two sisters, Mary Schmidt of Ann Arbor, MI and Margaret Beck of Manchester, TN.Her funeral services and interment will be held privately at the convenience of the family, entrusted to the care of the J. Allen Hooper Funeral Chapel, Morrisville, PA. (www.hooperfuneralchapel.com). In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Doylestown Hospital, 595 West State Street, Doylestown, PA 18901.
