Kenneth Francis Whittaker, 72, of New Hope, PA, passed away after a courageous yet brief fight against multiple illnesses on Wednesday, March 8, 2023 at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia. Born in Elizabeth, NJ, Ken lived in Danboro, PA for almost 20 years before moving to New Hope 12 years ago. Ken attended the New Jersey Institute of Technology, became a mechanical engineer, and worked for several manufacturing companies throughout his career.
Ken loved listening to all styles of music, and was an avid listener to, member of, and volunteer for the radio station WXPN in Philadelphia. He was a classic car enthusiast and enjoyed building car models and attending car shows. Ken loved spending time with his family, camping or grilling. He had a wry sense of humor; he “wouldn’t belong to any club that would have him as a member.” Ken will always be remembered for his corny jokes. He was a life-long learner who had an insatiable curiosity regarding the world and how it worked; he wouldn’t hesitate to stop his car for the chance to enjoy a rainbow.
Son of the late James and Helen (Gray) Whittaker, brother of the late Kathleen Whittaker, he is survived by his loving wife and best friend, Diane (Hoover) Whittaker; five children, Elisabeth (Rob) Schroeder, Michael (Stephanie) Whittaker, Daniel (Amanda) Whittaker, Erin (Andy Kuny) Whittaker and Corinne (Cathy) Whittaker; siblings James (Janet) Whittaker, Mary Whittaker, and William (Susan) Whittaker; eight grandchildren (Christopher, Morgan, Jacob, Teagan, Noelle, James, Ryan and Lisa) and several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at St. Martin of Tours Roman Catholic Church in New Hope on Saturday, March 18th at noon. Visitation will begin at 11:30 AM
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to WXPN ( www.xpn.org ).
