Kevin Philip Trainor

Kevin Philip Trainor, age 71 of Langhorne, PA passed away peacefully on Monday, November 21, 2022, at St. Mary Medical Center, Langhorne, PA.  He was born in the historic Sunnyside, a neighborhood in the New York City borough of Queens.  The area was the first development in the United States patterned after the ideas of the garden city movement in the first decades of the twentieth century.

In 1976, Kevin married the love of his life Alice Ann Bacon.  They moved from New York in 1989 to Yardley, PA and finally moved in 2004 to a retirement community in Langhorne, PA.

Son of the late John William and Rosemary (Smith) Trainor, he is survived by his wife Alice Ann Bacon, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins who remember him as loving, funny, and kind.

He entered the US Army in 1971 and was stationed in Heidelberg, Germany for the duration of his active-duty enlistment. Kevin got his start in journalism and was the editor and chief of the command military base newspaper.  Kevin later joined the 340th Public Affairs Detachment of the US Army Reserve in New York as a radio and television journalist and sound technician.

Kevin has been self-employed as a freelance sound technician working for major US television networks in the covering of news events around the world.  His travels ranged from Alaska documenting the Exxon Valdez oil spill in 1989, Saudi Arabia during the 1991 Gulf war, the tsunami in Indonesia in 2004, the aftermath of the Iraq war in 2005.

He worked for CBS News 48 Hours and 60 Minutes on assignments in the Soviet Union and again later in Russia as well as went to Nepal to cover climbers on Mount Everest.  Kevin participated in interviews of world leaders, US presidents, and people of all walks of life.

On September 11th, 2001, Kevin was in Manhattan for a scheduled interview with a contestant on the first “Survivor” season when the World Trade Center was attacked. He witnessed the collapse of both towers and remained in New York City for several days covering the tragedy.  The video coverage was amazing to watch the raw footage when we hear his friend and cameraman say to Kevin to run as the cloud of dust and debris is barreling toward them.

His free time was spent with his wife Alice where they enjoyed traveling, especially trips to Europe and Hawaii along with ocean cruises and driving trips across the US.  During a Hawaiian trip, Kevin discovered a hat with an ancient petroglyph that reminded him of a soundman holding a boom-microphone.  He took every opportunity to wear this hat and continued to get a fresh hat every time they traveled to Hawaii.

They traveled in Europe, but their favorite was the yearly trip for over 10 years to Germany for the Christmas markets. They travel together and on occasion brought family to enjoy the food and lights during the Holidays.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his life celebration on Tuesday, February 21, 2023, at 10:30 AM at the J. Allen Hooper Funeral Chapel, 41 W. Trenton Ave., Morrisville, PA  19067.  His committal service, with military honors, will follow at 11:30 AM at Washington Crossing National Cemetery, 830 Highland Ave., Newtown, PA  18940.

Friends may call on Feb. 21st from 9:30 – 10:30 AM at the funeral chapel.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions, in Kevin’s name, may be made to the Wyakin Foundation.
