Maddie Maysek (moran)

May 20, 1924 — April 30, 2016

Maddie Maysek, age 91, of Yardley, PA, beloved wife of Ray Maysek who predeceased her, died peacefully at St. Mary Medical Center in Langhorne, PA, on Saturday April 30, 2016 with her children at her side. Born in Clinton Massachusetts, the youngest of nine children of John and Bridgette Moran, Maddie graduated in 1941 with high honors as Vice President of her class from Clinton High School where she captained the basketball team and co-captained the field hockey team. According to her high school yearbook she had a "scholastic and extracurricular record comparable to the finest ever achieved at Clinton High School." Awarded her BS degree in Food Chemistry, Diet Therapy and Nutrition from Framingham State Teachers College in 1945, she completed her dietetic internship at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. After raising her family, she returned to work, teaching Nutrition and Diet Therapy at the college level for 23 years at Mercer Medical Center School of Nursing in Trenton, NJ. In addition to repeatedly being selected as "best instructor" by her students, her teaching acumen afforded those who survived her courses, the knowledge to consistently achieve the highest scores on State-mandated licensing exams. She lived by her creed "you are what you eat."She is survived by her four children: Raymond (Gretchen), Paul (Kate), Peter (Martha) and Ann. A doting grandmother, Grammy reveled in the accomplishments of her four granddaughters: Eileen, Katherine, Audrey, and Margaret. Thanksgivings were not only for sharing her secret recipe for apple pie, but to explain the chemistry behind a flaky crust. Importantly, her granddaughters picked up her traits of tenacity and independence which has served them well. She was a loving mother, protective of her family, and a gracious and kind friend to many extended family members, friends and neighbors.Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral mass at 11 AM on Saturday, May 7, 2016, at Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church, 201 N. Pennsylvania Ave., Morrisville, PA 19067. Interment will follow in St. Ignatius Cemetery, Yardley.Friends may call Friday evening from 4:30 - 7:30 PM and on Saturday morning from 9:30 - 10:30 AM at the J. Allen Hooper Funeral Chapel, 41 W.
