Michael Cappiello

July 20, 1938 — July 1, 2021

New Hope, PA

Michael Cappiello, age 82 of New Hope, PA, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 1, 2021 at Neshaminy Manor, Warrington, PA.  Michael was born in Morrisville, PA, and was a lifelong resident until moving to Buckingham Springs in 2000.

Son of the late John and Rose (Lumio) Cappiello, he is survived by his loving wife Nancy (Slack) Cappiello, two children, John (Brenda) Cappiello and Susan (Ken) Formicola, his sister Linda Schrey and niece Kristin, four grandchildren Michael (Kate), Lindsay, Anthony and Julia, as well as a great-granddaughter, Rose.

Mike served in the Air Force after graduating from Morrisville High School in 1956 and upon his discharge he became a crane operator at US Steel for 30 years before retiring in 1992.  He then began a 15 year long second career as school bus driver serving the families of the Council Rock School District.

Throughout his life, he loved learning new skills that enabled him to support his wife and children as well as his extended family and community.  In his twenties, he became a licensed barber, picking up hours in Walt’s Barber Shop in Morrisville - then in his thirties he became a trained appliance repairman and opened his Cappiello Appliance Repair business.  For many years afterward, he used these skills to help his many uncles, aunts, cousins, and friends – but mostly, he really enjoyed how these opportunities allowed him to spend time catching up with those he loved.

The love of his life was his wife Nancy.  They knew each other since attending Manor Park elementary school together and began dating when they were “fixed up” as each other’s Morrisville High School Prom dates.  Mike and Nancy married in 1960 and enjoyed the rest of their years together as devoted parents and then eventually grandparents.  When their children were working, they both had the chance to provide regular care for each of their four grandchildren, from infancy through their early years.  Then, just as they had enjoyed being a part of their children’s school and sporting activities, they also enjoyed being back in the local auditoriums, gymnasiums or ball fields cheering on their grandchildren.

Mike was an accomplished athlete in his own right – in his senior year of high school, he was the top hitter in Bucks County baseball.  He was also on the Morrisville High football team and while employed with US Steel, he played first base on the Slab Yard softball team.

Mike was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, friend, brother to Linda and son to Rose.  He loved caring for Rose, especially after the passing of his dad, and his mother loved cooking for him.  Up until the day of his passing he still had lifelong friends from grade school, high school, his various jobs, his neighborhoods and the Italian American Social club of his beloved Morrisville, PA.

Relatives and friends are invited to call on Thursday, July 8, 2021 from 9 AM to 11 AM at the J. Allen Hooper Funeral Chapel, 41 W. Trenton Ave., Morrisville, PA  19067.  The Rev. Rob Bloss will be officiating the service which will begin at 11 AM. His interment will follow at the Solebury Friends Cemetery, 2680 Sugan Rd in New Hope, PA.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions, in Michael’s name, be made to the local chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association (https://www.alz.org/delval/donate).
