Paul Patrick Cherney

July 1, 1954 — February 14, 2025

Yardley, PA

Paul Patrick Cherney, 70, of Yardley, PA passed away on February 14, 2025.

Paul was born in Grosse Pointe, Michigan, to the late Dorothy (Fanning) Cherney and Paul J. Cherney. He was a proud graduate of Lafayette College in Easton, PA, where he earned his BA in English and was the president of his fraternity, Delta Tau Delta. His time there not only shaped his character but also helped him forge lifelong friendships with his fraternity brothers, who will forever cherish the memories they created together.

Paul dedicated many years of his professional life to S&P Global on Wall Street in New York, where his keen intellect and sharp wit made him a standout among his peers. Outside of work, he was known for his boundless creativity and witty humor. Paul found joy in cooking, woodworking, painting, and drawing – activities that showcased his artistic talents and allowed him to express himself in unique ways. He took particular pride in refinishing his home, transforming it with his woodworking skills. Paul had a passion for music and loved listening to Steely Dan and The Grateful Dead while working in his woodshop. Paul cared deeply for his two daughters, Katie and Maggie Cherney, attending field hockey games and always cooking up a special meal for Wednesday night "Dinners with Dad." A lifelong Philadelphia Eagles and Lafayette College football fan, Paul was always ready to root for his teams on game day. He often used his dry sense of humor and sarcasm in conversations with friends; even if he corrected your grammar, you knew it came from a place of love. In his free time, Paul enjoyed watching the butterflies, hummingbirds, and other wildlife in his backyard.

Paul is predeceased by his brother, Tim Cherney, and survived by his daughters, Katie and Maggie Cherney; his sisters, Carol Johnson and Clare Cherney, as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and close friends whose lives he touched. There was a special place in his heart for his Delta Tau Delta brothers, who will miss him dearly.

Paul Cherney lived a life marked by creativity, warmth, and love. His larger-than-life presence will be sorely missed, but the legacy of laughter, kindness, and artistic expression he leaves behind will continue to inspire everyone fortunate enough to have known him.

A celebration of life will be announced at a later date. Contributions in Paul's memory may be made to Lafayette College Football, 730 High St, Easton, PA 18042 . Please keep the family in your thoughts during this difficult time.
