Peter Robert Moignard of Conway, SC (formerly Yardley, PA) passed peacefully on Tuesday, August 27, 2024 surrounded by his loving family at the Medical University of South Carolina hospital in Charleston after a few final weeks of intensive cardiothoracic care for COPD, pneumonia, and presumed recurrence of lung cancer. Peter was born on January 10, 1949 in Portsmouth, Hampshire, England to Joan (Hickey) and Reginald Moignard. Many years later, he emigrated to King of Prussia, PA, eventually ending up in Yardley, PA in the early nineties where he lived with his family for 30 years; finally retiring to Conway, SC in 2021.
While growing up in England, Peter attended school at both City of Bath Boys and King Edward’s in Bath, Somerset, England. He made a brief trip to the US in 1963 with his family when his father was assigned as Liaison for the British Admiralty and The Polaris Submarine Project at Electric Boat, Groton, CT and, while there, attended Norwich Free Academy, in Norwich, CT for one year. He returned to England to continue his education and further attended Bathford College and Portsmouth College of Technology. He eventually became a project management, IT whiz, working for such companies as IBM, American Express, Aramco, AGS, graduating to Coopers & Lybrand, one of the oldest accounting firms in the United States, before going into business for himself with three partners with Coreplan. Following the dotcom boom and the dissolvement of Coreplan, he contracted with Quest Diagnostics and Tek-GlaxoSmithKline, and then finally settled with the Educational Testing Service (ETS) for the remainder of his career. He retired from ETS following receiving an LVAD to treat his end-stage heart failure.
As a young boy, Peter was a dedicated Choir Boy at The Abbey in Bath and enjoyed an eclectic range of music. Peter taught himself to play the piano and guitar, playing songs by ear. During his brief time in the Statesin 1963, he and his friends got together and formed a band that mimicked the Beatles, with wigs and all, calling themselves “The Ledyard Beetles. "Peter played the role of George Harrison; the group became extremely popular around town performing in various venues to the genuine screams of all the young girls.
Peter played rugby in his teens and early twenties, playing in the English Under-21s Rugby team, including tour of France. He picked up golf after a rugby knee injury. He loved to spend time on the greens whenever he could. He played at St. Andrews in Scotland among other prestigious courses; becoming obsessed with collecting a course golf ball and visor from each course he played much to his wife’s chagrin. He also enjoyed gardening. His gardens in Yardley were comparable to a typical English garden, with many flowers and lush shrubbery adorning the front of the house. Peter also loved collections and categorizing all his interests via fantastically organized spreadsheets.
Always enjoying a good laugh, he would mimic characters such as John Cleese from Fawlty Towers and Monty Python, and constantly delighted in surprising those he loved with off-the-cuff pranks. He was theconsummate life of the party and his sense of humor drew people to him most.
Peter leaves behind Virginia (Tanger) Moignard, his beloved wife of 40 years, originally from Waterford, CT; his four children: Aimi Moignard of Southampton, Hampshire, England. Daniel Moignard (wife Laure Brexel) of Teddington, London, England, Emily Moignard (husband Michael Martin) of South Fayette, PA, and Andrew Moignard of Yardley, PA; together with his two sisters, Deirdre Moignard Miller of Penacook, NH and Deborah Moignard (partner Angela Moreira) of Bozrah, CT. He also leaves behind ten grandchildren: Henry, Grace, Joseph, Reuben, Oriana, Damson, Willoughby, Maximilien, Maisie, and Juniper; and one great grandson, Aimen. Peter also leaves his nephew Damian Halleck (wife Angela Morey) from Concord, NH, his niece Heidi Margulius (husband Darrell) from Germantown, WI, his grandnephews Nathanial, Jacob and Victor, and grandniece Kaitlyn.
For Peter’s loved ones his time came far too soon and he will be greatly missed by all.
