Virginia W. Midouhas

January 9, 1924 — February 8, 2025

Yardley, PA

Virginia Wyatt Midouhas, a longtime resident of Yardley, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on the evening of February 8, 2025. Virginia was one hundred and one years old. Throughout her long lifetime, she was a witness to many changes in the world.

Born January 9, 1924, in Geneva, Pennsylvania, Virginia was the only child of parents Mildred (Watson) and James Wyatt. She grew up in the nearby town of Point Marion.

Gifted with a beautiful singing voice, Virginia sang her first solo in church when she was just fourteen years old. While in high school, she sang in a girl’s trio that was awarded the second-place prize in the national competition in Albany, New York in 1940. As an adult, Virginia, a first soprano, was the soloist at the Bristol Presbyterian Church. She also sang at weddings and community events. When she moved to Yardley, Virginia joined the choir of the Morrisville Presbyterian Church. She codirected and performed in the MPC Players’ theater productions.

Virginia worked as a secretary. During World War II, she was the secretary to the vice-president of a company that manufactured parts for the Navy’s bomber planes. Here she used her excellent typing, Gregg shorthand and grammar skills. Later in life, she became a legal secretary, specializing in the preparation of estate documents. Virginia enjoyed the challenging work and did not retire until the age of eighty.

Virginia, along with a group of friends, was involved in the preservation of the colonial village of Fallsington, Pennsylvania. Their efforts protected Fallsington’s historic buildings from development. For many years, she volunteered at the annual Historic Fallsington Day.

She spent her summers on Long Beach Island, New Jersey. Virginia kept in shape by speed-walking along the shoreline from Spray Beach to Beach Haven and back; approximately two and one-half miles. She was known for having perfect posture, loving chocolate, singing a loud “Yoohoo” to get someone’s attention and drinking lots of coffee.

Virginia’s long life was sculpted by world events, changes in her community and personal trials and joys. When asked for her secret, she answered, “No matter what happens, keep moving forward.”

Virginia is survived by her children Stephen Conrad Midouhas (Robin), Elizabeth Durkin (the late Maurice), Amy Keating (John); her grandchildren Stephen Clark Midouhas (partner Cayte Castrillon), Emily Midouhas (Alexander Uregian), Matthew Durkin, Timothy Durkin, Patrick Durkin, John Wyatt Keating, Kathryn Keating; and her great-granddaughters Elisabeth Uregian and Anne Uregian.

She was preceded in death by her husband of fifty years, Stephen Peter Midouhas and her grandson Reed Midouhas.

The funeral service will be private.
