Virginia Wyatt Midouhas, a longtime resident of Yardley, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on the evening of February 8, 2025. Virginia was one hundred and one years old.
Born January 9, 1924, in Geneva, Pennsylvania, Virginia was the only child of Mildred (Watson) and James Wyatt. She grew up in the nearby town of Point Marion.
Virginia filled her home with music. A gifted singer, she was always practicing her vocal exercises, learning a new operatic aria, or humming a favorite tune. She performed her first solo in church when she was just fourteen years old. She sang the hymn “In the Garden.” While in high school, she harmonized in a girl’s trio that was awarded the second-place prize in the national competition in Albany, New York. As an adult, Virginia, a first soprano, was the soloist at the Bristol Presbyterian Church. She also sang at weddings and community events. She caroled at Christmastime. When she moved to Yardley, Virginia joined the choir of the Morrisville Presbyterian Church and performed in community theater.
Virginia used her typing and shorthand skills as a secretary at Fleetwings, Inc., a company that manufactured parts for the Navy’s bomber planes during World War II. It was there that she met her future husband. He was smitten when he heard her sing in the company’s talent show. Later in life, she became a legal secretary, specializing in the preparation of estate documents. Virginia enjoyed the challenging work and did not retire until the age of eighty.
She spent her leisure time walking along the shore in Spray Beach, New Jersey. Virginia volunteered at the annual Historic Fallsington Day in the colonial village of Fallsington, Pennsylvania. She was an active parent of the Morrisville Presbyterian Church youth club.
When asked for her secret to a successful life, Virginia answered, “No matter what happens, keep moving forward.”
Her beautiful melodies will be remembered and comfort us like lullabies.
Virginia is survived by her children Stephen Conrad Midouhas (Robin), Elizabeth Durkin (the late Maurice), Amy Keating (John); her grandchildren Stephen Clark Midouhas (partner Cayte Castrillon), Emily Midouhas (Alexander Uregian), Matthew Durkin, Timothy Durkin, Patrick Durkin, John Wyatt Keating, Kathryn Keating; and her great-granddaughters Elisabeth Uregian and Anne Uregian.
She was preceded in death by her husband of fifty years, Stephen Peter Midouhas and her grandson Reed Midouhas.
The funeral service will be private.
