Walter B. Churchill Jr. Age 71, Vietnam War veteran and distinguished Trenton, NJ business owner. An elegant man and witty bon vivant, Ben passed peacefully in his sleep, April 11th 2014 at his riverfront home in Philadelphia. Born in Hackensack, NJ, on January 7th 1943, he was a long-time resident of Yardley, PA in Bucks County. Ben moved to Philadelphia upon retiring from the family business in 2007, and made Naples, Fla. his winter home. A 1961 graduate of Pennsbury High School, where he took great pride in playing football at the varsity level. Ben graduated Pennsylvania Military College, Class of 1965. He served as a paratrooper with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and Platoon Leader in Viet Nam with the 70th Engineer Battalion (Combat). Ben earned a Bronze Star for meritorious service, and was honorably discharged from the Army as a Captain in 1971. He joined Mercer Oxygen and Supply Company, started by his father. He became President/CEO of the firm in 1980 with his brother, Dave. Ben received a Quilt of Valor in 2014 for his service in Vietnam, a source of great joy in his final months. Devoted father of Rebecca Campi of Charlottesville, Va; Walter B. Churchill III of NYC; Timothy Churchill of Philadelphia; and Stefanie Churchill of New Castle, NH. Also survived by three grandchildren, Josh, Zach and Matt Campi, and brother to Carol McDonald, David Churchill and Jay Churchill. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Lois Churchill. A military ceremony will be held at Washington Crossing National Cemetery on May 24th at 10 am, followed by a service at St. Andrews Episcopal Church in Yardley, PA and reception at the Washington Crossing Inn.
